The idea for ForReel.com was born one sunny December afternoon in 1998 during a staff meeting of a Victoria, BC, website design company. Over the usual buckets of latte, we discussed our plans for the weekend, which usually include a trip or two to the movies. The ForReel staff have at least three common interests: latte, the internet and movies. The internet is the perfect medium for providing showtimes, because it's current, quick and provides access to so much detailed information on films and moviemaking. So ... why wasn't anyone doing it?

ForReel was designed based on our own "wish list":

• Options of browsing by area, by movie and by genre
• A plot summary only long enough to help us recall previews/trailers/articles (after some discussion we added links to the official movie site, so detailed information is just one click away)
• A local perspective
• Most of all, quick access to movie listings. We don't always have time to buy a newspaper!

ForReel can be summed up as a movie information site provided by locals for locals. It will be updated with current Vancouver Island movie listings every Friday morning. It's simple, direct and structured in a way that will help you find the information you need quickly. We hope you also have some fun with ForReel.

From the first day that ForReel was posted, we've been asked why we don't offer original movie reviews. The main reason is that posting reviews would add a level of complexity to the site, making other information difficult to find. There are many review sites already on the internet, so we wouldn't be adding to the body of knowledge already available. Also, our initial research indicated that many people already know what movies they want to see by the time they look for listings. All that said (phew!) we have posted a page of links to movie reviews.
